We are continuing with the swimming lessons this year starting with fifth and sixth classes on Thursday 8th September. There is a fee of €50 per pupil. The classes will run for ten weeks. If you are interested in your child taking part, it will be necessary to pay the money in full before the first lesson.

Míol gruaige / Head lice
Nóta le cur in iúl go bhfuarthas míol gruaige i gceann de na daltaí sa scoil. Iarrtar ort gruaig do pháiste a ní le foltfholcadh oiriúnach agus cóireáil a dhéanamh ar an tseachtain seo. Tá sé tábhachtach go nglacann gach tuismitheoir na céimeanna cóir le déileáil leis go héifeachtach.

Please note that an incidence of head lice has been reported in the school. As such, it is recommended that your child’s hair is treated with appropriate shampoo as soon as possible. It is important that all parents act on this notice to ensure that the matter is dealt with effectively.

The following are the steps to be followed in relation to contacting the school:

·         If parents or guardians are worried about any aspect of their child’s education, they should contact the class teacher to discuss the matter with a view of resolving the issue. They may phone the school to make a formal arrangement for a meeting. The origin of the difficulty and the reason for the meeting must be given before the meeting. In the same vein, any teacher wishing to arrange a meeting about any aspect of the child’s education must also inform them of the reasons why the meeting is being called.

·         If the difficulty involves another aspect of the school or if the parent is still unhappy after discussing the problem with the teacher, they can organise a a meeting with the Principal. It will be left to the Principal’s discretion whether to organise a meeting between the teacher and the parents.

If the parent is still not satisfied, they may contact the Chairperson of the Board of Management to try to resolve the situation. The school will inform the parent as to how to contact the Chairperson, who will try to resolve the situation informally, possibly by organising a meeting between those involved.

Polasaí Obair Bhaile / Homework Policy

“Homework should be seen as reinforcement, as it offers an opportunity to widen experiences begun in the classroom… it encourages organisational skills and the ability to work independently… Homework creates a link between home and school.” (Primary School Curriculum 1999)

Guidelines
Naíonáin Shóisir (Term 2)       0 - 10 minutes
Naíonáin Shínsir                      0 – 15 minutes
Rang 1 & 2                              0 – 30 minutes
Rang 3 – 4                               0 – 45 minutes
Rang 5 & 6                              0 – 60 minutes
The times given for homework are guidelines and there will be a variation in how long the work will take for different pupils. Pupils should endeavour to do their best and parents should also encourage this. In the event of “obair bhaile” taking a significant amount of time more than that recommended, parents should allow the pupil to finish what they are doing and write a note in the dialann scoile for the class teacher.
