Réamhrá an Chathaoirligh

Tá Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí ag glacadh iarratais nua don Mheán Fómhair seo chugainn agus do na blianta eile amach romhainn.

Le fís, neart oibre agus dúthracht, d’oscail Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí a ndoirse don chéad uair i Meán Fómhair na bliana 1999.  Thar roinnt blianta cláraíodh breis agus nócha páistí ar rolla na Gaelscoile.  Faigheann na páistí busanna ó Bhaile Dhún na nGall féin agus na ceantair mháguaird – Dún Chionn Fhaolaidh, Baile an tSratha agus na Cealla Beaga.

Tá foireann óg, bríomhar agus ardchailíthe sa Ghaelscoil agus í ag dul ó neart go neart faoi cheannas an phríomhoide úir, Róisín Ní Chumhaill.

Is tríd an mhodh an tumoideachais a insealbhaítear imeachtaí an churaclaim agus scileanna sóisialta ach ní ionann sin s’ rá go gcaithfidh tú a bheith i do chainteoir líofa Gaeilge.  Is beag Gaeilge ata ag tromlach na dtuismitheoirí agus cuid acu gan Gaeilge ar bith.  Chuirfeadh sé do sháith iontais ort an méid Gaeilge is féidir a fhoghlaim i gcomhluadar do chuid páistí.  Le roinnt blianta anuas téann cuid dár gcuid daltaí go Gairmscoil Chú Uladh, áit a dtig leo tógáil ar a gcuid bunoideachais tríd Ghaeilge agus tríd Bhéarla.

Tá áit lárnach ag imeachtaí breischuraclaim.  Bíonn muid rannpháirt i bParáid Lá Fhéile Phádraig i mBaile Dhún na nGall gach bliain agus imeachtaí eile nach iad.

Tá spiorad láidir idirchreidmheach i nGaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí a fhrithchaitheann éagsúlacht spioradálta na n-Eaglaisí uilig. Mar aon leis sin, ceiliúrann spiorad seo an áit speisialta atá ag na hÉaglaisí uilig sa chomhphobal agus i gceantair eile. Foghlaimíonn ár ndaltaí faoi chreidimh eile a bhíonn thart orthu a chruthaíonn agus a dhaingníonn tuiscint agus meas sna daltaí. Is é caomhnú na timpeallachta ar cheann dena mórluachanna a spreagann na múinteoirí agus faoi cheannas Róisín Ní Chumhaill, bronnadh an Brat Glas ar an Ghaelscoil i 2010.

Is éacht iontach í an Ghaelscoil. Ní bheadh sí in ann dul ó neart go neart gan tacaíocht leanúnach óna tuismitheoirí, ó fhoireann uilig na scoile agus, ar ndóigh, páistí na Gaelscoile.

Chairperson’s Foreword

Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maistrí are now accepting enrolment applications for next September and subsequent years.

The Gaelscoil opened its doors for the first time in September 1999 after a lot of hard work and dedication, with just 14 pupils.  In the few intervening years, the parents of over ninety children have decided that this forward thinking school is the choice for them, with pupils coming from an area covering Dunkineely to Ballintra  availing of our bus service.

A young, vibrant and highly qualified staff, recently headed by the new principal Róisín Ní Chumhaill, has witnessed the Gaelscoil go from strength to strength.

A total immersion model of language acquisition is core to all curricular and social activities of Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí. This, however, does not mean you need to be able to speak the language yourself.  In fact, the vast majority of our parents have little or no Irish to begin with, but it’s surprising how much we can learn with, and through our children.  And don’t forget, your child is still going to communicate with you in their first language.

We are also delighted that pupils who decide to further their education in Irish can do so with pupils from the Gaelscoil also attending the secondary school in Fintown, Gairm Scoil Chú Uladh.

There is much emphasis on extra-curricular activities too, making school an exciting, fun place to be.  Our participation in the annual St Patrick’s Day parade in Donegal Town just goes to show that school can be a musical and colourful environment – even on dull, grey days.  Our heritage of music and drama are encouraged and each child will develop their own particular talents – wherever they may lie.

The school is based on an interdenominational ethos reflecting and celebrating the spiritual diversity of all religious faiths which has a special place in the spiritual life of our community. Our children are encouraged to learn how others may worship in different ways, thus engendering in them a tolerance, broader understanding and respect for social diversity. One of the core values of the Gaelscoil is to encourage and promote awareness and respect for the environment. Under the leadership of Róisín Ní Chumhaill, the Gaelscoil, in 2010, was awarded the Green Flag for its environmental awareness endeavours.

The Gaelscoil is a great achievement for all involved. It could have not been successful without the great support from our Parents, School Staff, past and present and indeed  Paistí na Scoile.

Finally, we would like to welcome everybody to our school and enjoy the day.

We encourage parents to actively promote the language at home.  Ask your child to say/sing their songs or to act out their stories.  Each family should invest in a good English/Irish and Irish/English dictionary.
